Schoon drinkwater in Ayawasi
Medio 2012 is een Aqua Tower waterzuiveringsinstallatie van de Planet Water Foundation geïnstalleerd in het dorp Ayawasi in het binnenland van de Vogelkop.
Nadat we in 2009 voor het eerst contact hadden met de Planet Water Foundation, kwam het er in 2012 dan eindelijk van dat de installatie verscheept kon worden naar West-Papoea. De zuiveringsinstallatie zuivert het inkomende water op een zodanige wijze, dat het water dat uit het kraantje komt, drinkbaar is.
Onze technische man van Yayasan Sosial Agustinus, Frans Waga Ole, is naar het gebied afgereisd om de boel samen met de lokale bevolking te installeren en hen te instrueren over het onderhoud ervan. De installatie is geplaatst naast het missieziekenhuisje dat gerund wordt door de plaatselijke zusters.

Over het functioneren van de zuiveringsinstallatie meldt ze het volgende:
“If you would like to go to Ayawasi you just have to drive eastwards from the town Sorong into the inland of West Papua. A few years ago the street was still hard to access and the journey took about 12 hours from Sorong. Now the road is almost all the way asphalted
and the trip just takes 6 hours.
The small village of Ayawasi has about 700 inhabitants. They have a kindergarten, elementary school and a junior high school. Basic health care is provided through the clinic.
Before the building of the Aqua Tower in 2012 the villagers had to walk to the two wells outside the village to gather their water. After the installation of the Aqua Tower water is easy accessible at different points of the village. Pipes are installed to provide access to clean water. After the rainy season the community was facing problems as the pump was broken and the pipes muddy and got dirty with sand. Now the situation is already very good again as the pump has been fixed and the pipes have been cleaned. The community works together on maintenance and repair of the Aqua Tower so that they all together can daily profit from the Aqua Tower.”
